Visible Learning is about developing an understanding of the impact that instructional efforts have on students' learning. ...we do not limit that to teachers...everyone can determine [this] if the learning is visible. To do so, students (AND teachers) have to know:
what they are learning
why they are learning it
what it means to be "good" at this learning
what it means to have learned p. 2
Nearly all the things teachers do work...
but only a few things work at ensuring that
students gain a full years' worth of growth
for one school year.
Visible learning requires that teachers understand which strategies...are useful in which teaching situations. There is no single right way..but there are wrong ways. p. xi
No instructional strategy should be held in higher esteem than students’ learning...if evidence suggests learning has not occurred, instruction (not the student) needs to change.
"Our focus is on actions that fall inside the zone of desired effects. When actions are in this range, the data suggest that the effort extends beyond that which was expected from attending school for a year." p. 12
Every student deserves a great teacher, not by chance, but by design.

"An effect size tells us how powerful something is in creating change."
