Superintendent of Schools for AOS 93

AOS 93 Welcomes New Superintendent

At its meeting on Feb. 8, the AOS 93 Board announced the selection of Lynsey Johnston as the district's next Superintendent of Schools, effective July 1, 2022. Johnston, who currently serves as the district's assistant superintendent for business, was chosen after an internal search conducted by the board and an interview committee with representation from the district's seven towns and five schools, including a principal, a teacher, a staff member, and multiple parents. She becomes the first woman to serve in the role since the creation of AOS 93 in 2009.

Born and raised in Lincoln County, Johnston attended the College of the Holy Cross in Worchester, Massachusetts, before transferring to the University of Melbourne (Australia) to finish her undergraduate degree. She went on to receive her Master of Science in Teaching and Learning at the University of Southern Maine. Additionally, she has enrolled in postgraduate studies at New England College in New Hampshire.

Before joining AOS 93 in 2016 as the Principal at Jefferson Village School, Johnston spent 13 years in the Rockland school district, beginning as a middle school teacher and holding a variety of positions, including elementary and middle school principalships. After four years at JVS, Johnston was tapped to become AOS 93’s assistant superintendent. Her previous experiences uniquely qualify Lynsey to lead the AOS 93 district.

Retiring Superintendent Craig Jurgensen said, “The appointment of Lynsey Johnston as the next School Superintendent for AOS 93 is welcome news for everyone connected with the Central Lincoln County School System. Lynsey has a wealth of experience and knowledge that supports her strong understanding of our member towns, schools, school boards, staff members, and students. She is a thoughtful, collaborative, and focused educator with an understanding and

appreciation for the needs of all students. She's the right person for the job and I am very happy for her knowing that she will take full advantage of this opportunity.”

Upon being named as superintendent, Johnston had the following to say: “I am pleased to have this opportunity to serve as the next Superintendent of Schools for AOS 93! I have had the pleasure of working in AOS 93, both in Jefferson and at the Central Office for the last six years, and I know this is a great district of which to be a part. I look forward to continuing to work with the staff, School Boards, and communities to educate our students and ensure our schools are always striving for excellence!”

According to AOS 93 Board Chair Matthew Hanly, “Lynsey Johnston is the clear choice to lead our schools forward and had strong, unanimous support from both the Internal Search Interview Committee and the AOS 93 Board. Please join us in congratulating Lynsey as she takes on this new leadership role.”
