The Old Bristol Historical Society is hosting a “Sailor’s Valentine Workshop” at the Bristol History Center (Route 130 at 2089 Bristol Road) on Saturday, February 11th from 10 am to noon for folks of all ages, including children. Space is limited to 20 project kits, so we ask that attendees pre-register.
Sailor’s Valentines began to appear in the 19th century. Far from home, sailors would collect shells, stones, and whatever materials were at hand to fashion special keepsakes for their sweethearts back home. Participants will be given all the materials they need to create their own small “sailor’s valentine.” (Please note that children 12 and under should be accompanied by an adult.)
