The 8th Grade had their annual Outing Club trip this past weekend to the Moosehead Lake Region.  While the winds were too strong to make the crossing to Kineo Island and hike Mount Kineo, Attean Pond is not far away and offered a similar opportunity to paddle out to a campsite with Sally Mtn available as a hike.

outingThe change in venue didn't spoil the big surprise though, as Mr Anderson and Paige were able to hang back at the landing a few extra minutes to pick up our surprise guest leader (Mr Will) who made a triumphant entrance, lounging in the middle of Mr Anderson and Paige's canoe, to the campsite.  Rather than hiking Sally Mtn, the group decided they would rather spend Saturday paddling on the pond, so we did just that, paddling to a spot on a far shoreline for lunch and then making our way back in time to watch the freight train go by on the tracks just a few hundred feet from our campsite.

outing 2There was plenty of hot chocolate on the chilly mornings and of course marshmallows by the campfire at night, but soon it was time to pack up our campsite on Sunday morning, paddle back to the landing, return the canoes, pickup our lunch from Jamo's and make our way back to the hustle and bustle of the real world.

outing 3Not to worry, they will return to the woods this spring, as they are planning to take their 8th Grade Class Trip to the Greenville area and enjoy some time doing activities together as a class rather than going to FunTown for the day and splitting up into smaller groups.

Art

Through the month of September, NCS students have been working on ‘Art and Identity’ projects. We took a closer look at what identity means to us, and how we can use art to explain it in different ways. Please enjoy some of the art work hanging on the walls from the past month!

read a thonIt's time for the NPTO Read-A-Thon!

Our school-wide event kicks off Monday, October 6, 2025, and it’s going to be a fun and inspiring journey for our young readers.

We know your time is valuable—and we also know how much you care about your child’s education. That’s why we’re encouraging everyone to activate their student’s Read-A-Thon account as soon as possible. It’s quick, easy, and takes less than 5 minutes!

Activate your student’s Reader account here:

https://www.read-a-thon.com/readers/r/pxKCBR/1?utm=email

Once activated, your child’s account becomes a hub for tracking reading minutes and sharing their Read-A-Thon page with friends and family. Every minute read and every donation helps support our school through the NPTO—and builds a lifelong love of reading.

Thank you for your support and participation. Together, we’re raising readers and making a difference!
