Dear NCS Families,

It is so wonderful to have such sunny days in the month of October.  As the weather is getting colder and temperatures can change from one day to another, please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for going outside.  Congratulations to our soccer team for a fantastic season; the team continued to play well and truly made great improvements from the first game to the last.  We had such a great turnout for our annual Open House; it was great to see so many families!  I hope you have a wonderful extra-long weekend, as Indigenous Peoples Day is a holiday and school will resume on Tuesday next week.

Sincerely Yours,

Tom

In the Art Room…

art pumpkinsThe seventh grade class has been hard at work creating these famous artist-inspired pumpkin still lifes. They will be hanging at the Barn Door Cafe (Bookstore Cafe) for the whole month of October. I'm incredibly proud of what these students were able to accomplish in such a short amount of time. If you haven't had a chance to check them out yet, please enjoy these photos!

school sign

What's going on with the school sign?

The NCS school sign is in need of refurbishment/replacement, and our 8th graders have taken on that task!  School Board Member Mike Ward has started the process for us by sourcing a new board and the paint for the background.  The 8th graders have taken all the measurements needed and completed the design and layout for the new sign.  They'll be working over the next several weeks to paint the new board, use the school's laser cutter to cut out the new lettering and logo, attach the lettering and logo to the board, and mount the sign back on the existing posts.  We'll be sure to share some photos as the painting, cutting, and mounting process gets going, but for now we just wanted everyone to know why it was taken down, that a new one is on its way, and that the replacement will be student designed and created by our 8th graders using tools from last year's Teach with Technology Grant from the Maine DOE.  We look forward to sharing the process with you and to everyone seeing the new sign when it is completed!
