Last Thursday, our eighth graders went on a kayaking tour with Maine Kayak. They learned basic paddling strokes and proper boat form before they paddled along the Johns Bay shoreline. They spotted ospreys and osprey nests, terns, an eagle, and a seal. In addition to wildlife, there were lots of laughs and memories made. We would like to give a big shoutout to Maine Kayak for hosting us and to the Maine Island Trail Association for generously contributing grant funding to help our efforts to get students out on the water. What a way to kick off their eighth grade year! -Ms. Winchenbach & Mr. Flowers

UPDATE! Stop into Grades 1-4 for Open House next Tuesday!

An exciting opportunity we have this year concerns the building of a boat in collaboration with the Carpenter's Boat Shop and the Old Bristol Historical Society in Bristol. Partly to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the Continental Army's expedition to Quebec through Maine, students will be traveling to the Carpenter's Boat Shop weekly to help build a bateau, a colonial era boat that was used as a transport vessel. A kickoff speech by Rob Stevens, the master carpenter, will be given at the school sometime in late September (details TBA), after which construction will begin. This past Wednesday, Rob brought a finished bateau to the school for the students to inspect.

Check out this great opportunity to try hockey!
