Each week NCS students have a chance to win the Caption Contest in the library by writing a funny caption for a photo on display. Prizes range from gel pens and fidgets to galaxy slime and squishy toys. Go, Lions!

NCS students in Mr. Suttmeier’s social studies class are learning all about Native American life, including how to build a real wigwam. Go, Lions!
Maine author and fiber artist Hillary Dow visited the NCS Library on Oct. 24. She discussed her process of making books: writing the words and felting characters and objects out of wool and photographing them. She took questions and taught 10 lucky middle-schoolers how to felt a bookmark during "Lunch in the Library." Go, Lions!

They estimated the number of candy corn, used mini catapults, danced to on-screen prompts and made pumpkin necklaces showcasing the life cycle of a pumpkin plant. Go, Lions!

Read-a-thon winners from each class at NCS received two posters, a certificate of accomplishment and a gift certificate for two free books from the Scholastic Book Fair last Friday from NPTO. Students read more than 16,000 combined minutes with 49 children participating. The book fair is in December. Go, Lions!

Last week's Pumpkin Run hosted by the LA Cross Country Team drew 21 participants from NCS. Everyone completed the race and showed grit, determination and sportmanship. Seven NCS boys place in the top 10. Go, Lions!

Children's book author Hillary Dow will visit NCS on Friday, Oct. 24. She will speak with children and staff about raising sheep, felting wool, and writing and illustrating her books. NCS eighth-graders went on a weekend Outing Club trip to Attean Pond and Sally Mountain on Sept. 26-28. They camped, hiked, canoed and more. Go, Lions!
The NCS soccer team traveled to Vinalhaven for a game on Thursday. NCS lost the game, but the student athletes had a wonderful time traveling to the island. Go, Lions!
Mr. Drew and his Animals Too visited the NCS Library on Thursday as part of the Summer Reading Celebration! Students who read over the summer were rewarded with a fun and educational assembly, complete with a tarantula, tortoise, snapping turtle, boa constrictor and more! Go, Lions!
